By fortunate circumstances, I mean meeting Dr. Lakshmi Prasad Dasi, an associate professor of biomedical engineering and surgery at The Ohio State University (OSU), at a trade show in 2018. Dr. Dasi and his team walked by my booth where I was marketing mock vessels of the heart and aortic system. Dr. Dasi’s students wore OSU shirts and carried OSU backpacks.

“I am all things Buckeye,” I said. My daughter graduated from OSU in 2018, so I felt an immediate connection. I engaged Dr. Dasi, demonstrating how he could use my silicon models in his experiments.

Dr. Dasi had been using the silicone products in his lab for about a year when I visited to understand better how the silicone models fit into his work. He pulled up a raw PowerPoint of the technology he had developed using the vessels I sold to him and then he asked, “Do you know anyone who might want to start a company with me?”

For me, helping improve outcomes for patients with heart disease felt personal. My father passed away at age 67 after two unsuccessful heart surgeries. There was something inside of me wanting to do this. It was like my dad was standing over my shoulder giving me executive courage.

With my business experience and Dr. Dasi’s clinical expertise, it did not take long to realize what a great team we would be. We formed DASI Simulations in December 2019. Then, COVID-19 hit, and the world around us stopped. We, however, did not stop. We worked continuously night and day by Zoom making something very special out of an idea and fortunate circumstances. It was by pure serendipity that I met Dr. Lakshmi Dasi and I will be forever grateful.

Teri Sirset

CO-FOUNDER, PRESIDENT AND CEO

Co-founder, President and CEO of DASI Simulations. Teri is a high-level sales executive with 25 years’ senior management experience in Medical Device Sales and Marketing. Her most recent position was Vice President of Sales and New Business Development for a start-up company in the cardiovascular and neurovascular space. Teri has fund-raising (Angel Investment 2M), Quality Assurance, and FDA submission experience.

Lakshmi Dasi, Ph.D.

INVENTED THE TECHNOLOGY FOR DASI SIMULATIONS AND CO-FOUNDER

Invented the technology for DASI Simulations and co-founded the company with Teri Sirset in 2019. Dr. Dasi is a leading bioengineer in the field of heart valve engineering with over 16 years of experience with an active and extensive publication record. Previously at The Ohio State University, he is currently running an independent research laboratory at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Professor of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Dasi has raised over $6M in federal funding towards heart valve research.

Sean McKibben, MBA

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Serves as the Chief Operating Officer for DASI Simulations. Sean has over 24 years’ experience as a hospital executive (President, COO & CFO) including serving as a hospital president for 16 years with two different organizations, the University Hospitals system in Cleveland, Ohio, and most recently with Mount Carmel Health System located in Central Ohio. He was also the responsible system executive for the Heart and Vascular service line for a portion of his tenure at Mount Carmel.

Ann Patterson

CHIEF PEOPLE OFFICER

Ann is a successful entrepreneur having run her own business for the past 19 years. She has also worked in the Radiology Department at University Hospital Parma for 25 years.

Reed McCalmon

VP OF FINANCE

Reed McCalmon – Serving as DASI’s VP of Finance, Reed has over 15 years of extensive startup finance and accounting experience. Assisting from idea phase through Series A, Reed has implemented financial practices that ensure Company’s success during growth stages. He has served as Director and CFO for Biotech companies such as Abreos Biosciences – focused on therapeutic drug monitoring of biologic therapies in the autoimmune, oncology, and neurology spaces, and Pareto Bio – a microbiome technology aiming to treat and prevent food allergies.

Cardiovascular Surgeon Piedmont Healthcare

Dr. Thourani is recognized as a national cardiovascular thought leader, serving in leadership roles in several societies, which include the Heart Valve Society, the national board of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, a board of trustees of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, the Surgeons Council of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. Dr. Thourani has an extensive background in academic surgery, education, and research and has authored over 400 articles that have appeared in some of the most esteemed medical journals. in the world.

Michael Mack, MD

Cardiovascular Surgeon at Baylor Scott & White

Dr. Mack has performed over 7,000 cardiac surgeries, including more than 3,000 involving heart valve procedures. Dr. Michael Mack is a world-renowned physician and considered a pioneer in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. He currently serves as the medical director of cardiothoracic surgery for Baylor Scott & White Health and the chairman of the BSW the Heart Hospital – Plano Research Center. Dr. Mack has served as President of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery. He has authored or co-authored over 400 publications and was awarded in 2014 the TCT Career Achievement Award.

Scott Lilly, MD, Ph.D.

Interventional Cardiologist at Wexner Medical Center

Dr. Lilly specializes in procedural therapies for coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, and heart failure. Many of the patients he has treated include those patients who have heart conditions that may require therapies that are not even available yet, but he believes a multi-disciplinary team of medical providers can provide patients access to effective and innovative therapies. He is considered a pioneer in the use of advanced modeling and simulations to guide transcatheter aortic valve replacements as he and the OSU Wexner Medical Center are one of the first and remain one of the few centers to utilize this pre-procedure simulations process.

Venkat Polsani, MD

Interventional Cardiologist at Piedmont Healthcare

Dr. Polsani is board certified in Cardiac CTA. nuclear cardiology, and clinical lipidology. He is also a member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), American Heart Association, American Society for Echocardiography, and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. Dr. Polsani has also done extensive research in cardiovascular MRI, cardiac CTA, and 3D-echocardiography and their specific applications in valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, and infiltrative cardiomyopathies.

Pradeep Yadav, MD

Dr. Yadav graduated with honors in 2005.
